How to Burn CDs in Library Computers

Be sure to ask for a computer with a CD burner when you check out an internet station.  These directions are accurate only for computers at the library.  You may see different steps elsewhere, depending on the software/hardware installed.

Save your file(s) on the computer's Desktop or other accessible folder.  You can even use a flash drive.  Close out of the file(s) you wish to burn.

Save your file(s) to an accessible folder

Right click on the file you want to save, select Send To a CD Drive (usually followed by a D: or E:).

Right-click the file and Send To the CD Drive

Once this is done, a balloon will pop up in the lower right-hand corner of the screen.  The balloon will read "You have files waiting to be written to the CD.  To see the files now, click this balloon."  Click on the balloon.

Click the balloon to go to the CD Drive and see your file(s).

A temporary folder on the CD Drive will open up.  There are several options you can choose from in the sidebar on the left hand side of the screen.  Choose "Write these files to CD" to burn your files to a CD-R or CD-RW.

Now you can write these files to your CD.

Don’t forget to delete your files from the Desktop (if needed)!

Use these instructions if right-click is disabled.

Note:  If right-clicking is disabled on the computer you're using, you can still burn CDs by saving your file in the My Documents folder on the Desktop.  Open My Documents.  Left click once to select your file(s).  Click File at the top of the My Documents window, select Send To, and then the appropriate drive.  The burning process should begin in a moment.

If you do not see a DVD/CD or CD Drive, please let a staff member know.
