Branch History
The history of our
library is centered basically on our Friends group. They began years before we opened and spent most of this time
lobbying for support from the community and raising money. They succeeded, and the branch opened in May 1995.
We were sandwiched between a barber shop/beauty parlor and a
dance/karate studio, located on Route 360 in Manquin. Our patronage and resources grew so rapidly, that we soon outgrew
the space!
In
late Summer 2000, a proposal for a new 4000 square foot space was
presented to and approved by the King William Board of Supervisors. In January 2001, thanks to the use of a truck donated by a local
nursery, volunteers from the Friends group, patrons and a local Boy Scout
troop, we were able to transfer shelves, books and furnishings to the new
location. The Library is in
the center of a storefront complex on Sharon Road and offers a 40 seat
meeting room for public use.
