BRANCH MANAGER I
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Branch Manager oversees and is responsible for ensuring high quality library service for library users in all operations of a Branch Library. The Branch Manager provides direct service to library users and supervises or delegates supervision of all paid employees and volunteers assigned to the branch. This position is supervised by a Deputy Director.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
The Branch Manager is primarily responsible for providing assistance to library users and for personnel and management functions of the branch library.Duties may include:

Assisting patrons with the catalog, equipment and collection
Addressing complaints of both patrons and staff
Answering reference questions
Interviewing, hiring, scheduling, instructing and evaluating staff
Planning and running branch staff meetings and participating in other meetings
Implementing Library policies
Handling phone requests
Maintaining and reporting statistics and monies
Dealing with facilities scheduling, problems and improvements
Representing the library in the community
Other duties as assigned

Knowledge and skills in working with computers and office/AV equipment
Knowledge of library operations
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING

Four year college degree required
Formal library training preferred
Library experience preferred
Two years working directly with the public preferred
Management/supervisory experience preferred
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Must work evening and weekend hours on a regular basis and substitute as needed
Valid VA driver’s license OR reliable transportation to and from work
Subject to a six-month probationary period
May require additional training outside the normal work day
