LIBRARIAN - COLLECTIONS

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position performs responsibilities in all areas of collection management, including acquisitions, cataloging, and weeding. Recommends materials for purchase and oversees specific procedures for processing and procuring materials. This position is supervised by the Collection Strategy Librarian.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES

  • Utilizes community and library data to strategically build relevant, well-balanced and diverse adult, young adult and children's collections and utilizes a variety of sources such as journals, vendors and media.
  • Reviews and selects physical and digital materials that meet the needs of the community.
  • Uses collection management tools.
  • Compiles reports and statistics to aid in evaluation of the collection.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited college or university and previous library experience are required. Candidates with the equivalent combination of education, training, and related library experience which demonstrates the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job may be considered.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Valid VA driver’s license OR reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Subject to six-month provisional period.
