PUBLIC SERVICES COORDINATOR LIBRARIAN

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Public Services Coordinator Librarian is responsible for creating a unified, system-wide approach to the delivery of library services and participating in the planning and evaluation of programs, services, and goals in an assigned customer service area for the library system. This position reports to a Supervising Librarian.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

  • Coordinates and implements new programming initiatives for assigned area in cooperation with community partners and administration at the direction of a Supervising Librarian.
  • Coordinates library outreach efforts to serve customers in cooperation with other members of the public services team.
  • Coordinates work activities; organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with public services staff.
  • Provides system-wide training and support.
  • Maintains an awareness of new literature, technologies, trends and advances.
  • Reviews and recommends new programs, procedures, and tools to improve the efficiency of operations.
  • Identifies and acquires new public services resources.
  • Prepares and completes statistics reports.
  • Maintains and fills requests for programming resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited library school.
  • Relevant previous experience preferred.
  • Librarian certificate from the Virginia Board for the Certification of Librarians within 6 months of hire.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Valid Virginia driver’s license OR reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Subject to six-month provisional period.
  • May require evening or weekend hours.
