  3. Select who you are registering (just yourself, yourself and your children, or a group such as daycare class).

Note: Internet Explorer users, if you don’t get enrolled in a program, please call your branch library or email ask@pamunkeylibrary.org for assistance.

Your goal is to earn 1000 points. Points can be earned by reading and by completing online "missions."

Earn points by doing the following:
  • Spend one minute reading = 1 point OR
  • Read a Picture book = 50 points each
  • Read a Readers’ chapter book = 100 points each
  • Read a YA or adult book = 250 points each
  • Complete a mission = 100-200 points each

Keep track of your points by logging your books, minutes, or missions:
  • From the Readsquared home page, click the "Log Reading" button.
  • You can log book titles or minutes or a combination of both.
  • Title and author are optional. You’ll earn points whether the title and author are listed or not.
  • Readers, Teens, and Read to Me participants can only log 250 points per day. Adults can log an unlimited number of points per day.

You’ll also earn digital badges as you progress through the program.

Once 1000 points have been earned, Readers and Read-to-Me participants can select a prize from the online prize store. Teens and Adults earn a raffle ticket for a chance at winning a prize.

1,000 Books before Kindergarten

Pamunkey Regional Library is excited to offer your child the "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten" program. The goal of the program is to read 1,000 books before your child enters Kindergarten. While that may seem like a mighty big task, you can complete the program in a little over three years if you read just one book a day. Be sure to visit your local library for
  • A bookmark when you sign up
  • A sticker and bookmark at every 100 books read
  • A celebration event for children who reach their goal
  • Your name on the milestone wall!

Did you know?...
  • The Summer Reading Program can help prevent "summer slide," when children who don't read during the summer can lose up to two months of learning when school begins again in the fall.
  • Children who participate in the Summer Reading Program and read a minimum of six books score higher in reading and math when they return to school.

If you have any questions about the Summer Reading Program, please ask a staff member or e-mail ask@pamunkeylibrary.org.

Thanks for reading this summer!
