Branch History
The community in this part of Hanover County wanted a library and as a result of a successful bond referendum in 1994, plans were laid out to open a new branch. A renovation of a rundown storefront began in the summer of 1997; everything from the floor to the roof. What started out as a shell of a grocery store evolved into a bright, energetic and bustling library. As the Atlee community grew, Hanover County recognized the need for a new facility. The architectural design group, Quinn Evans, was hired to design a new state-of-the-art and beautiful library to serve the expanding community. The new Atlee Library Branch is a 20,000 square foot facility that offers large meeting rooms, a variety of study rooms, a digital media lab, creative gathering space, comfortable seating, an outdoor patio space, and gorgeous views of the wooded outdoors. The new Atlee Branch opened its doors in August of 2020.
